SILKSTREAM

audiovisual installation (to be viewed from above)

Silkstream is to be viewed in darkness from above - from a bridge or escarpment, the atrium of a building or even looking into a hole in the ground. Shifting picture planes reveal floating figurines in a gin clear stream, but looking over the edge triggers an infra red beam which clears the stream of the alluring figures. A soundscape of simple note progressions harmonises with metranomic bubbles.

DEEPFIELD ECHO

audiovisual installation (elevation view)

Site specific fantasy based around a projected object likely to be found in the location.  Flashing lights and panoramic sound music, faint female voices and phosphorescent glows communicate a midnight call to the beautiful abduction of a 60s refridgerator sales model

ELECTRIC PICNIC   Stradbally, Ireland, August 2008/2009:  2.7m x 6m (vertical format) rear projection

The installation was situated in a dense pine forest with the screen dramatically suspended between 2 trees, about 30m from the main path.  A tree identical to those in the surrounding forest formed the basis of the visuals.  The accompanying music and sound design mixes celestial ambient with a dark thriller groove.

HOVE FESTIVALEN   Norway June 2008:  7m a 2.7m (horizontal format) rear projection

Situated in a secluded forest on the fringes of the main site, a shorting out electricity pole identical to those cutting across the island formed the basis of the visuals. The music and sound design contrasted celestial ambient with pagan mania and cold spaceship hoverings.

POLE HIGHWAY  audiovisual telegraph pole installation (proposal)

The site is cut through by a long line of telegraph poles which form a long narrow canyon through the trees. Lights at intervals along the pole line flash in sequence, drawing peoples' eyes down the line and deep into the forest where a "double" telegraph pole forms a spectacular frame.  Viewers crossing the canyon look one way and see the sequence of lights flashing towards and away from them into infinity.  The other way - a mirror image of the lights appears in the frame, a back projected trompe d'oeille.  High speed objects - jumbo jets, leaves, snow, trains, lights, cable cars, household objects, figures, race towards them at the height of the poles.  Sounds of jets, traffic, trains, in staccato bursts fly past on both sides with the traffic.  X files meets 19th Century heroic landscape painting
